Holiday Tokens are a limited currency that must be used in holiday stores or to spin the wheel in wheel events. Although they are given the same name at each holiday, their appearance changes. Holiday event icons show up in the same place on the screen as other Events in the game.
Holiday Tokens cannot be purchased with real money. They must be collected from your village. To find out how to collect them, you must click on the event icon. On the lefthand side of the event screen, the animals and Fun Stuff that will currently produce holiday tokens (along with their usual and
) are listed. The requirements change every 2-3 days. The amount of tokens you will get varies depending on the event, but a general rule is that the more members of an animal family you have, the more tokens you will get.
Sometimes gameloft will send out a notice in the News section of the game that announces ahead of time what the next set of animals/buildings will produce holiday tokens. This allows players to take those items out of inventory and make sure they're ready to collect from as soon as the event starts. But even when gameloft doesn't announce them, players can sometimes make an educated guess about what one of the animal families might be. To help give lower level players a chance to earn tokens, they're usually going to choose one of the lower level animals. And because all families produce the same amount of tokens based on how many members they have and not their relative earning power in the game, they like to choose ones that have a longer recharge time - not like, say, the 30 second sloth. Because there are a limited number of animals that meet both of those requirements there are certain animals that show up fairly frequently. It's a good idea to look through this page, see which non-limited animals tend to show up a lot, and make sure those are out of your inventory.
To collect tokens faster, you can use the "Rush" option to speed up collection from animals and fun buildings involved in the event. An in-game pop-up stated that "If you use Rush on any of the families listed in [an] Event, you are always guaranteed to get the Holiday Tokens!" [This was a question because players did not always receive Tokens every time they used Collect Frenzy in the event where tokens were awarded for using collect frenzy.]
Left over Holiday Tokens cannot be saved up for the next holiday event, they disappear when the event icon disappears. So use them up before they leave! Note that as long as you get at least one family member of an animal sold in the Holiday Store or offered as a prize on a prize wheel, you will be able to complete the family, because once you get the first member, the remaining members are available in the Shop and cost instead of Holiday Tokens.
There are two types of holiday events: stores and prize wheels. There are advantages and disadvantages to each format.
Stores[]
Holiday Stores work just like the regular Shop. All limited holiday items will be shown, along with their price given in holiday tokens, and info buttons to see additional info about each item. The image at the top of this page is of a holiday store.
Players can only buy the first family member with holiday tokens - the family can be completed any time afterwards by paying in the regular Shop. But try to get as many of the decorations and fun buildings as you want before the Holiday Store expires, because they will not be in the regular shop afterwards!
Prize Wheels[]
Gameloft introduced wheel events in October 2015. In wheel events, holiday tokens are used to purchase spins on a prize wheel instead for a chance at winning items instead of purchasing them directly.
The wheels are like the wheel in Kung Fu Scrat - it is weighted. Therefore the probability of landing on each slot is not equal. The likelihood of landing on cheaper items (usually decorations) is far higher than the likelihood of landing on the more expensive items (usually certain animal families).
Items are not necessarily removed from the wheel once you win them. This includes animals. So it's possible to complete families by winning all four members during the event. At that point, the animal would be removed from the wheel. Many players reported that decorations and fun buildings are eventually removed once they won a certain number of them (about 10). However, other players reported that this feature did not work for them and that those items never left despite winning more than 10. When items were removed from the wheel, the odds of winning the remaining items did not appear to increase. Instead of removing the slot entirely, the slot is instead filled with an alternative prize - either ,
, or additional holiday tokens. Additionally, many players reported that when the collection event changed every 2-3 days, the extra decorations and fun buildings in their inventory disappeared and the item once again appeared on their prize wheel.
Several players also reported that they seemed to only win animals every three days, or only after 4-5 spins in a day. Although this theory needs more testing, it may be beneficial for players to save up tickets for a few days and then use them all at once.
